Oliva 135th Ann. - O135JGW (The "Wootone") - Custom Order

A while back I was tasked with an interesting custom-build by a collaborator: "I love the sound of my Tele, but prefer the neck scale-length and the 22 frets of my Les Paul." CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

I sourced a really shockingly-nice 24.75"-scale Tele-style neck with not only the full compliment of 22 frets, BUT ALSO with awesome fretboard binding and nice trapezoid inlays (like a Les Paul or SG Standard).

I used the middle portion of an unfinished, rough-cut pine Tele-style body as the center-block (which runs to the end of the inside of the body, naturally), and gave it the all-frets-clear-of-body treatment, so you can reach all the way up.

I used a popular session player mod by flipping the control plate so that the selector switch is in back and the volume is actually beneath the bridge pickup for easier swells with your pinky. 3-barrel (brass) classic Tele-style bridge, and some nicer OEM-style pickups (complete with brass-bottom bridge pickup!) give it "the sound". I did extensive shielding and grounding of the areas around the controls and the pickup cavities, since I knew this guitar would be used as a live performance instrument. This proved to be effective immediately, as the owner literally used it for a gig upon delivery (and it sounded killer, I have to say). We opted out of putting a piezo in this one, she's a straight electric.

Very pleased to have been able to put features not usually found together into an instrument that instantly passed the test. It's the ultimate form of flattery watching something that came together in your garage or on your kitchen table being put to use in a real-life scenario so successfully. Definitely proud of this build!
